3
platforms (web, iOS and Android) from one design system
2
personas, fan and artist, served by a single component set
0
algorithmic gatekeeping between an artist and their audience
The brief
Streaming pays roughly $0.003 to $0.005 per play: about 250,000 monthly streams to reach minimum wage. Artists build the audience and hand most of the revenue to a platform that did not build any of it.
Design
The insight
Both groups already had the relationship. Artists build audiences on stage, on social media, in their local scene. The product did not need to build discovery or algorithmic recommendation. It needed to be a direct payment rail between people who already wanted to support each other.
That single decision removed an entire product surface and shaped everything after it.
The identity
A talking drum, reduced to a silhouette. Streaming services are green, red, black. Gangan needed to signal different economics at a glance, before anyone read the pitch. The mark carries across the App Store and Play Store listings, the marketing site, social, and inside the product as app icon, loading screen and navigation mark.
Outcome
Gangan launched across web, iOS and Android from a single design system serving two distinct personas, with a cohesive identity across all platforms and marketing surfaces.

Decisions that mattered
- 01
Designed for two personas inside one system rather than two apps. Fan and artist see different navigation and different surfaces, but every component is shared, which is what made three platforms possible at that pace.
- 02
Built the product around a payment rail rather than discovery. Artists and fans already had the relationship; the product only needed to carry the transaction, so no recommendation engine was required.
- 03
Took the identity from the talking drum rather than the streaming-service palette. No green, no red: the mark signals 'different' before a word of positioning is read.
